Project Description
This suite is the centerpiece of the six suite, 10,000 s.f. Canyon Lakes Dental Centre in San Ramon, California. Taking our inspiration from an existing 35 foot high cupola (dome-like ceiling), we designed an entry garden-atrium common to the three specialist's suites (photo #1). This not only serves as a pleasing transition space (first impressions!) but with its solarium type sloping roof and windows it brings light and foliage to the interior spaces of the suites (photo #2).
Dr. Bigman was appropriately concerned with the length and irregular shape of the space we allocated for him. Our design utilizes the existing shape to create privacy in the reception area without resorting to a doorway, and yet the receptionist also has a clear view of the on-deck and clinical areas of the suite (photo #2). The unusually high ceiling space offered us the opportunity to create powerful ceiling dynamics in the three quadrants of the suite, each exploiting the architecture of the atrium structure while reflecting the varied functions of each section. The colors, textures, soft curves and pendant lighting provide the continuity necessary to hold the different parts together, without sacrificing the many interesting views afforded by the architecture.
This suite is also electronically sophisticated. The computer check-in station (photo #4) recessed into the casework is networked throughout the suite, including the built-in monitor in the bay support cabinet (photo #5). A TV is built into the "dead corner" of the sterilization area and wired to head phone connectors built into the back panel of the
gracefully curved on-deck seating unit (photo #2). |
