In this linear suite the ceiling presented both challenges and opportunities. We took advantage of the open truss ceiling where possible in the waiting area and the operatories, allowing the natural light to penetrate into the space. The trusses also meant that where we did not expose them we had a relatively low ceiling. An interesting response to that over the reception desk was to make an inverted soffit (or well) that followed the curvilinear shape of the desk. A regular soffit would have dropped too low over the desk.
