Pang & Lee
One of the challenges for this remodeling project was to turn the long, narrow entry from the street into a pleasurable event. The serpentine seating layout, the curved reception desk, the translucent glass block and the playful purple ‘squiggle’ relief on the ceiling relieve the limitations of the space. The low structural beams discouraged us from dropping a suspended ceiling below it. Instead we had acoustical tiles glued directly to the upper ceiling and made a statement of the existing structural elements as a counterpoint to the ‘squiggle’ element. The circular sterilization area in the clinical space surrounded by supporting casework elements proved to be a functional and sculptural device to separate all of the surrounding clinical spaces.
